The Pusher
This aspect of us is a very common force in our Western culture. Take this quiz and see how your Pusher rates:
- I always have a list of things I need to do. It never is complete because I keep adding items to it as I cross off other items.
- I am the consummate planner on vacations, making sure that myself and my traveling companions always have something to do. A Caribbean lay around on the beach and do nothing is not for me!
- The idea of just sitting and enjoying the sunset or reading a trashy novel upsets me.
- I can easily multi-task and make sure that every moment of the day is purposeful and useful.
- One of my favorite sayings is "Idle hands are the devil's workshop", "Either lead, follow, or get out of the way".
- When I am working on one project, I am always thinking about the next one.
- I am always saying 'yes' to any projects that I am asked to take on - there is never too much to do.
- I am often tired but feel that there is a mountain of work to do that only I can do so I just keep on pushing ahead.
- I cannot tolerate lazy people - they are unproductive and in my way.
- I notice that there are a lot of people in my life that ask me to do work for them because they seem too lazy or unfocused to do things themselves. It drives me crazy!
If you answered a categorical YES to most or all of these questions - you have just met your Pusher sub-personality. PUSHERS will never let us sit idle or relax and will tend to judge anyone who does! When we have a Pusher as a primary sub-personality we often have a disowned (or repressed) opposite energy which could be called LAZY. When we get in touch with the part of us that can be LAZY, we bring some balance and permission to stand-down to our driven PUSHERS. Our life changes dramatically as we create space for new eyes…we can watch a sunset and see nothing but the beauty before us … we have time to take time!
